Our Mission and Vision

We aim to uplift the quality of life of Filipino Americans by undertaking or supporting programs for their economic empowerment, social development and healthful community living.

We envision a Filipino American community that is vibrant, productive, united and fully cognizant and affirmative of its resources, aspirations and strength.

We are driven by the driven by the desire to serve the community in a rather different way. We realize that to be effective change agents, we need to be activists that seek innovative solutions to problems and challenges that confront the community.

We strive to go beyond the existing modalities in our community by premising our development approach on community empowerment through capacity building within the framework of shared cultural values. We propose to collaborate rather than compete, reinforce rather than eliminate, affirm rather than negate, and initiate rather than be passive participants in the development process. We will focus on lon-term, systemic and sustainable solutions rather than palliative measures.

We uphold the need to direct our attention and efforts to building and energizing the Filipino community in America recognizing the importance of constructive assertiveness in a diverse society.

We believe in the power of collective wisdom and efforts in identifying needs and determining appropriate intervention strategies. We recognize the importance of community-based organizations as instruments for resource mobilization. We accept politics as a necessary given in consensus building. We affirm that the development process starts and ends in building self-reliant communities that are capable of applying community assets to good use in a sustainable manner.

Finally, we draw inspiration from the countless Filipinos who came before us and struggled for what we now enjoy - respect and esteem buoyed by industry, indomitable spirit and love of family.

Please join us - The Filipino American Development Initiatives (FADI)- in celebrating a night of great music at 6PM on November 1, 2008 at the Mission Valley Hilton Hotel featuring Ramon "Montet" Acoymo - a singer hailed as "mesmerizing" in New York, "successful" in Rottenberg, and "remarkable" in Manila.

The purpose of this dinner concert is to build the Filipino Language Program Enhancement Fund that will provide financial assistance to teachers wanting to get credentialed in the teaching of the Filipino language, to educators and writers developing curricula and instructional materials for the teaching of the Filipino language, and to students implementing projects that will help them appreciate, understand and learn the Filipino languge and culture.
